This paper aims to review the evidences linking obstructive sleep apnea and orthodontics. A brief review of the literature for epidemiology, risk factors, diagnosis suspicion, and diagnosis in children and adults is performed. The influence of orthodontic treatment in patients with risk factors is also analyzed. Some results of a series of 472 patients studied at the sleep unit of Hospital del Trabajador in Santiago, Chile, are also presented. Additionally the case of three patients, representing examples of orthodontic compensation, is presented.  (Rev Esp Ortod. 2017;47(2):065-072)
