Virtual planning and design of CAD/CAM splints in orthognathic surgery: a new era?

The big goal unsettled in treatment of the skeletal deformities is the planning precision. This fact is especially important in asymmetrical deformities. The aim in this article is to present a method that allows a three-dimensional evaluation of facial complex. Also, this method permits to simulate osteotomies and skeletal movements. Finally, the STO information transmission to a CAD/CAM system allows the surgical splint construction.  (Rev Esp Ortod. 2005;35(4):363-370)
