The posterior bite collapse is a common pathology in adult patients with advanced periodontal disease and is characterized by a pathologic tooth migration and a loss of occlusal vertical dimension. The purpose of this article is to explain the etiologic factors and clinical manifestations of the posterior bite collapse and to explain the biomechanics to be used illustrated with a clinical case.  (Rev Esp Ortod. 2006;36(4):273-282)
