Effects of whitening with peroxides on the shear bond strength of orthodontics brackets

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of hydrogen and carbamide peroxides on the shear bond strength of orthodontic brackets. Material and methods: A total of 60 extracted bovine teeth were randomly divided into 3 groups (n = 20). In group I (control), the teeth were untreated, whereas in remaining groups the teeth were bleached with 38% hydrogen peroxide (group II, Opalescence BOOST), and 10% carbamide peroxide (group III, Opalescence). In all groups the enamel was conditioned with self-etching primer (5 s), and stainless steel beckets were bonded with Transbond CC according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The samples were stored (37 °C, 24 h), and tested (0,5 mm/min). The scoring of adhesive remnant index (ARI) was also recorded.  (Rev Esp Ortod. 2010;40(3):151-157)
