Extraction debate. Part 1. Bridge over troubled water

The extraction debate shocked orthodontic world a century ago. It was a fight between two outstanding clinical and academical personalities, Edward Angle and Calvin Case. It shows us how science wars behave creating different paradigms supported by different schools based on epistemological and cultural values. In this article a historical analysis is done in order to tell what happened. Different circumstances occurred years ago can may be make some light on the actual situation, that is not new at all  (Rev Esp Ortod. 2009;39(1):007-020)
